Color and texture. More than anything, from the beginning of watercolor painting when I was young, watching colors flow and blend in beautiful ways has been a joy, I have been fascinated by all of this. I've learned the way you can bring so many different moods into your work no matter the medium. The surprises that happen keep me fresh. What you can do even with glass when you mix it in a torch is addictive. Encaustic, hot wax, as Jasper Johns used to do, and oil and cold wax, give stunning examples of wonderful color and texture. These really are the most tactile of mediums.
